What is a retrofit smart lock?
A retrofit smart lock is the simplest and quickest way to make your lock smart and boost your door’s security. Our Smart Locks attach to your existing deadbolt on the inside of your door, leaving the outside untouched. It installs easily under 10 minutes—just unscrew the inside thumb turn, attach the mounting plate, and add your August Smart Lock. All you need is a screwdriver.

How much space is needed to install an August Smart Lock?
When installing an August smart lock, additional clearance is needed to allow the wing latches to fully extend in order to secure the device properly on the mounting plate. As this may differ based on model, you can refer to the full list here.
